Firefighters in Larimer County on Friday were called away from a water training exercise for an actual water rescue.
Poudre Fire Authority firefighters rescued four people who were stuck in the Cache la Poudre River, on the west side of the 800 block of North College Avenue, according to a fire authority media release. No one was injured in the incident.
A 911 call was made at 3:37 p.m. Friday about “two young women” who were clinging to a log near a low-head dam.
When firefighters arrived, a separate man and woman – not tubing with the initial two women – floated down the same section of river. All four became stuck in the same area and required rescue.
Rescue personnel, using an inflatable boat, got the second the pair, the man and woman, out of the river by about 4:15 p.m., the release said.
The two women originally stuck were a bit further out in the river. They were rescued and on the river bank at about 5 p.m.
Waters are currently running high and fast in Colorado, authorities said, people should use caution.
“As Coloradans, playing outdoors is a deep-rooted part of our nature,” Poudre Fire Authority spokeswoman Madeline Noblett said in the release. “However, we remind people that the Poudre River is flowing fast and strong. Be safe and be prepared, no matter the activity.”
