A Brighton man riding a motorcycle that witnesses say was going faster than the posted 45 mph speed limit failed to stop for a red traffic signal and struck the side of an SUV just before 11 a.m. Saturday, killing the rider.
The blue Yamaha YZFR1 sport motorcycle was eastbound approaching an intersection when it struck the passenger side of a silver Toyota 4-Runner, which was westbound making a left turn from Bromley Lane onto South 48th Avenue, Brighton police said in a news release.
The force of the crash sent Asael Sifuentes-Reyes flying through the rear passenger window of the SUV. Sifuentes-Reyes, who was wearing a helmet, was flown to a Denver-area hospital where he later died, Brighton police said.
Jenifer Bryant, 33, of Aurora was driving the SUV with her 8-year-old son in the front passenger seat. Both were wearing safety belts. Glass from the crash covered the boy, and both he and Bryant were taken by ambulance to a Denver-area hospital.
Police said they don’t suspect the use of alcohol or drugs caused the crash. The crash is under investigation. Anyone with information should contact Brighton police at 303-655-2300.
