Colorado Springs police arrested a 45-year-old man suspected of drunken driving early Thursday morning after he crashed a car into a tree, killing a passenger who was hurled out of the car, and took off running.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene of the one-vehicle crash at 10:53 p.m. Wednesday. Two other passengers were taken to a hospital with serious injuries, according to a Colorado Springs police report.
Christopher Roseboom, who also was injured seriously, has been arrested for investigation of drunken driving, hit and run, vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, according to the report.
Roseboom was going south on the 2500 block of North Chelton Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his Subaru Impreza. The vehicle slid off the road and slammed into a large tree at the intersection of Chelton and Highland Drive, according to the report.
As the Subaru rotated away from the tree, a passenger sitting in the right rear seat was ejected from the car and killed.
The passenger had not been wearing a seat belt.
After the crash, Roseboom took off running, according to the police report.
Patrol officers from the Stetson Hills Division found Roseboom several hours later near his home, a few blocks from the crash scene. He was taken to the hospital and arrested.
The crash victim’s identity has not been released.
The El Paso County coroner will release the name of the person who was killed.
