Defensive end Kenny Anunike spent the Broncos’ offseason program on the sidelines, recovering from a knee injury that landed him on list late last season.
But Anunike, who could have a greater role on the team’s defensive line following the departure of Malik Jackson in free agency, told The Denver Post that he’s “feeling great” and expects to be back on the field by the start of training camp in late July.
“Oh yeah, of course, of course. I cannot wait,” he said. “I’m on track and working with (Broncos head athletic trainer Steve Antonopulos) and those guys every day at the facility. I’ll be ready to go.”
The Broncos ended organized team activities Wednesday, allowing most players a break before camp begins. Players rehabilitating from injuries, such as cornerback Aqib Talib (gunshot wound) and DeMarcus Ware (back) are expected to stay in Colorado to continue their recoveries, coach Gary Kubiak said. Anunike said he, too, plans to spend most of his time in Colorado until camp starts.
Embracing analytics. General manager John Elway, who was a panelist at the Global Innovation in Sports Competition at Sports Authority Field on Wednesday, said the team plans to add another person to its analytics department this year. The Broncos hired Mitch Tanney as their director of football analytics in March 2015.
