  • “I got altitude sickness yesterday.”– a woman on day four
  • “This is the nicest dirt road I’ve been on. Ever.” — a man on day four
  • “This is nothing like RAGBRAI.” — an Iowan at the base of Trail Ridge Road on day five.
  • “I can’t feel my feet.” — a man at the first aid station on day five.
  • “Nothing like the smell of maple syrup and porta potties in the morning.” — day five at the first aid station.
  • “Isn’t that how you check if you’re having stroke? Stick your tongue out and move it to both sides?” — day five at the first aid station.
  • “I didn’t see a bighorn sheep, but I did see a mountain goat. Got real close to him. We called him Simon.” — a woman on day six.
