Who doesn’t like to save money? Better yet, how about getting paid cash for buying stuff online? That’s ‘s twist, which is similar to cash-back hubs like FatWallet. But ShopAtHome was first in the shopping portal niche. It all started back in 1986, when co-founder Claudia Braunstein wanted to buy items from multiple catalogs. The answer was to create a catalog of catalogs. Sure, it was printed and came in the mail — 10 million at its peak. But the company has morphed into an online version of its old self. Today, the business generates revenue from referring shoppers to thousands of online stores. And in 2006, it launched the cash-back portal, automatically crediting users cash based on a percentage of each sale. Hit $20 in rebates and the company mails out a check. ShopAtHome, of course, has . Its iOS update comes out next month.
