A suspect wanted for a sexual assault of a child, who was shot by police on Tuesday in Edgewater, has been identified.

David E. Little, 40, of Golden, who was wanted on an outstanding felony warrant, was shot several times after Golden detectives boxed-in Little’s vehicle with their cars.

Golden police on Wednesday said in a media release that Little rammed police cars with his vehicle, and that he opened fire on detectives, who then returned his fire.

Little was taken to a local hospital. Golden police said on Wednesday that his condition is unknown.

The three Golden detectives involved, who were not injured, are on paid administrative leave pending an ongoing investigation.

A Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team, made up of various law enforcement members throughout the county, is investigating the shooting.

The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the criminal case.
