Getting your player ready...

The Nuggets picked up a trio of outside shooters in the first round of the NBA draft on Thursday in Jamal Murray, Juan Hernangomez and Malik Beasley. The Nuggets were pleased with their picks — particularly Murray, who they had third on their draft board behind Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram.

But what did the national media think of their picks? Here’s a brief roundup of what was said:

:
“Murray is maybe the best player the Nuggets were going to get in terms of talent, and his fit with Emmanuel Mudiay in the backcourt should really work well. The Nuggets could really use his floor-spacing ability. The key for Murray’s career will be the defensive end, as he really needs to improve there.” Grade: B+

:
“The Nuggets continue to build the goofiest, most unorthodox roster in the league. Jamal Murray’s slow-motion game will be so much fun next to Emmanuel Mudiay going 150 miles per hour, and it may actually be a smart combination for them both.” Team grade: B+

:
“The Nuggets were one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the NBA last season, and Murray’s outside shot immediately improves their perimeter game. He’s an NBA-ready offensive player, no doubt, but questions persist about his athleticism and defense. Regardless, the Nuggets took the best talent available.” Grade: A-

:
“Canadian shot-maker played a key role in Kentucky’s improved performance down the stretch. Instinctive scorer with a sweet stroke. Very good set shooter who is exceptional at shooting off screens. Scoring touch makes him a threat from every spot on the floor. Not particularly explosive off the bounce. Limited defensively. Has some potential as a combo guard, but needs to improve his decision-making. Upside may be limited by his average athleticism.” Grade: B+

:
“The Kentucky product is a lightning-quick and aggressive scorer with passing skills to boot. Whichever guard spot he lines up at, he can probe a defense and keep it honest with his knack for finding open teammates and hitting perimeter jumpers.” Grade: B

:
“In terms of the pieces, Murray and Beasley will make for good, young running mates with Emmanuel Mudiay. Frankly (as John Calipari said earlier this week), I wouldn’t be surprised to see Murray lead all rookies in scoring.” Team grade: A-
