I am a bit amused by the reflexive outpouring of indignation over the UK’s vote to get off of a sinking ship. The institutions of the European Union have grown into a grotesque leviathan, thoroughly convinced of its own intellectual and moral superiority, in desperate need of either an incredible reinvention or an outright euthanization. A century ago, the Ottoman Empire was disparaged as the “Sick Man of Europe.” What so many fail to realize is that now, in the 21st century, Brussels is the Sick Man of Europe, and the Brits were wise to find the door.

Is the departure of the UK from the European Union the start of a “Western Spring” movement that might bring Donald Trump to the White House in November? Does anybody remember the outcome of the Arab Spring? Does anybody care?
