A 17-year-old Northglenn girl was cited Saturday after authorities say she pulled into the path of a motorcyclist in Chaffee County, leaving a woman dead and a man injured.
The crash happened about 1:15 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 285 and Chaffee County Road 140, just north of Poncha Springs. The Colorado State Patrol says the teen, who was on the county road, pulled into the path of a Harley-Davidson heading southbound on the highway.
The motorcyclist swerved to avoid the teen’s Mitsubishi, rolling onto its left side and ejecting the motorcycle’s driver and passenger.
The motorcycle’s passenger, a 57-year-old woman from Green Mountain Falls, northwest of Colorado Springs, was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 70-year-old Donald Vsetecka, also of Green Mountain Falls, was taken to Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida.
Vsetecka was not wearing a helmet. His passenger’s name has not been released.
The Northglenn teen was cited on suspicion of careless driving resulting in death.
The Colorado State Patrol says speed, alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
