Our apologies, Colorado, but you’re just not patriotic enough to take the top spot on WalletHub’s newest list.
The state landed in the No. 4 spot on the Washington, D.C.-based financial website’s list of , ranking behind No. 1 Virginia), No. 2 Alaska and No. 3 South Carolina this year.
The ranking-happy site, which regularly issues city-based lists covering everything from to “ compared the 50 states “across 12 key metrics such as military engagement, voting habits and civic education,” according to a news release.
The full report includes such categories as military engagement and civic engagement, which no doubt helped push us into the top five such as Fort Carson, Buckley Air Force Base and Peterson Air Force Base.
Of course, patriotism is a concept that’s not always easy to pin down, so we’re guessing last-place states like Connecticut (No. 49) and New Jersey (No. 50) would probably have something to say about the methodology.
Here are some more Colorado patriotism stats from the report:
- Fifth – Percentage of residents who voted in the most recent presidential election
- 15th – Percentage of residents who enlisted in the military
- 10th – Number of active-duty military personnel per capita
- Ninth – Number of Peace Corps volunteers per capita
- 16th – Volunteer rate
- 24th – Number of veterans per capita
- 22nd – Civics education requirement
- Ninth – Volunteer hours per resident
- Sixth – Number of Americorps volunteers per capita
The data used to create the rankings were obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Peace Corps, the United States Elections Project and other sources, WalletHub said.
