Sports Authority shutting down Lone Tree store

Last day for 70 employees will be August 31

The Sports Authority will close its Lone Tree store by Aug. 31, which is sooner than anticipated, according to a company letter filed with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment as part of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.

The store, located at 7848 County Line Road in Lone Tree, employs 70 people.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Sports Authority must reduce its business operations and close all operations of the Lone Tree Store #134 on an accelerated schedule,” read the letter.

Sports Authority in March in order to attempt a reorganization or a sale. By May,  all hope with limited buyer interest and lack of additional capital. It’s now in the throes of at its more than 460 stores.

Earlier this year, the company notified the state that it is also , which employed about 770 people. CEO Michael Foss’s last day was June 10.
