Authorities have identified the body of a 49-year-old west of Glenwood Springs.
Jonathan Carl Rounsaville’s identity was confirmed through his fingerprints, Garfield County Coroner Robert Glassmire said.
Rounsaville’s mother in Utah was notified Wednesday and is coordinating funeral services in that state, according to Glassmire.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading up to Rounsaville’s death. A friend told the coroner’s office Rounsaville enjoyed fishing, but officials say they don’t know whether he was angling before he died.
The Garfield County Coroner’s Office is asking any river users either on the Roaring Fork or Colorado rivers keep an eye out for fishing equipment that may appear to be abandoned. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the coroner at 970-665-6335.
Rounsaville’s body was found floating near the south bank of the Colorado River by those aboard two commercial rafts in the area. Investigators initially said it appeared he had been there for “a matter of days.”
