This November will be four years since 13-year-old Dylan Redwine went missing from his father’s home in Vallecito near Durango. since then, the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office has searched for his remains.
This year, the search along Middle Mountain Road will begin Wednesday and end July 11, said Daniel Bender, a La Plata Sheriff’s Office spokesperson. Searches continue because weather can cause erosion, which may uncover evidence that was previously hidden, he said.
Only a small number of Redwine’s bones about 10 miles from his father’s home north of Vallecito Lake.
The National Forest Service is closing down the last two miles of the nearly 13-mile road to allow the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office to set up a mobile command unit that allows communication between the unit and searches in the surrounding area and to ensure volunteers can cross the road and park without being an interference from traffic, Bender said.
The campgrounds in the area will remain open and people are free to use ATV’s along the open part of the road, he added.
