A man fatally shot his brother Thursday evening in an area southwest of Woodland Park and then was killed by responding Park County deputies, authorities say.
Tristan Vilters, 24, killed his younger brother Morgan, 22, before being slain, according to the county coroner’s office.
“Autopsies are scheduled to be completed over the weekend,” the coroner’s office said in a Friday news release. “The incident remains under investigation.”
Investigators have said little to nothing about what transpired in the shootings, saying only that the incident happened near the town of Guffey after authorities were called to the scene about 5:30 p.m.
No exact address was provided and investigators did not indicate what prompted Tristan Vilters to shoot his brother.

A Park County deputy was injured in trying to arrest Tristan Vilters, the county sheriff’s office said, and was treated at a hospital and released. Authorities did not elaborate.
Tristan Vilters was fatally shot when deputies “confronted” him and “additional shots were fired,” the county said in a tweet.
Sheriff Fred Wegener said further details would be released once the investigation into the shooting is complete. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the case.
