A search for a missing man believed to have drowned in Lake Pueblo while attempting to retrieve a jet ski has been called off for the day after six hours of searching, officials say.
“We’ve pretty much exhausted our dive resources today,” said Kyle Davidson, spokesman for Lake Pueblo State Park.
The man went missing after he swam out Sunday to retrieve a jet ski that had drifted away from the North Picnic Cove area, Davidson said.
The search will resume Tuesday, he said.
The name of the man has not been released.
Park rangers were called at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday after several witnesses saw two men swimming after the unsecured jet ski that floated away from the shore, Davidson said.
“We are very sad to say that there was a drowning at the park yesterday,” a Lake Pueblo State Park news release on Monday says. “Staff and rescue crews will be resuming the search this morning.”
Only one of the two men returned to shore. The missing man is believed to be in his 30s.
Areas of North Picnic Cove were closed on land and off shore for Independence Day.
Authorities requested that bystanders keep their distance from the search.
