Once authorities had confirmed five Dallas police officers had been killed and seven others wounded and march against the police slayings of two black men, Colorado officials began an outpouring of support.
U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., said Friday morning that the violence in Dallas was “devastating.”
“Our thoughts are with the families of the fallen officers and with those who were injured,” Bennet said in a statement. “This vicious attack on a peaceful demonstration of people exercising their right to free speech is un-American. We must come together to ensure that all our citizens feel safe in their communities and protected by our system of justice.”
The state’s other U.S. Senator, Republican Cory Gardner, echoed Bennet’s sentiments.
“I’m horrified by the deadly events of this week,” he said in a Friday statement. “No one should ever be targeted because of the color of their skin, or the color blue of a police uniform. I join the nation in grieving for the loss of life that has sent shockwaves throughout our communities this week, and I pray that we can unite and show the world that good ultimately overcomes evil and peace will prevail.”
This is a very dark day. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dallas police and their entire community. This is a loss for every American.
