Re: “,” July 3 guest commentary.

In his anti-Christo commentary, attorney Michael Harris glowingly portrays the “natural beauty, biological productivity, and diverse river environments” of the Arkansas River canyon, where the Over the River project will be. This canyon has a highway on one side, a railroad track on the other, and is routinely packed with bumper-to-bumper rafts, sluggish motorhomes towing jeeps, and fishermen and hunters invading and trashing private property, all eagerly invited in by the state of Colorado.

Over the River, a portion of which would land a few hundred feet from my home, will certainly not be the end of this or any other world, real or imagined.

Chances are that anyone who has never experienced an art exhibition by Christo will never be able to understand both its impact and relevance to the chosen location — local, regional, national. His projects are technically perfect in their construction, engaging from the very moment one enters their domain, and create harmony among those who choose to experience them.

With family and friends in tow, I have just departed Lake Iseo in Italy after 10 days of witnessing the full panorama of The Floating Piers and the relevance it brought to all who experienced it.

Still don’t believe me? Just ask anyone and everyone who engaged with The Gates in New York City’s Central Park. Before editorializing against Christo and his work, you might want to meet him and just listen.
