With a background of having served as a classroom educator for 40 years, I was encouraged by your article. To read about higher retention rates for both teachers and students as a direct result of academic training is a significant step in educational progress. That knowledge is essential. But I was even more encouraged by Principal Kimberly Grayson’s comment about the heart of education: “You have to make a culture in your building where teachers want to stay and kids want to come to school.”

Education is about both knowledge and passion.
