Saturday, members of the Minnesota Lynx wore warm up shirts saying “Change Starts with Us” on the front in support of two African American men that were killed last week. Though the players denounced the attack in which five police officers were killed in Dallas, off-duty officers, who were working the Lynx game, left in disagreement.
In a news conference following the Las Vegas Board of Governors meeting, NBA commissioner Adam Silver responded to the incident saying that he supports athletes expressing their political opinions.
“I am absolutely in favor of players speaking out and speaking from the heart about whatever issues are important to them. It’s how this country operates,” Silver said.
However, Silver took a firm stance against uniform changes, saying it’s a “slippery slope” and he would like athletes to abide by the uniform policies set in place.
