Stormy skies brought hail to parts of the Denver area Friday, as tornadoes were sighted on the Eastern Plains.
A tornado touched down in Cheyenne County along the Kansas border on Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service in Boulder says the tornado hit at 2:10 p.m. about eight miles east of Cheyenne Wells and moving south at about 20 mph. According to forecasters, it was confirmed by area residents.
“Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter,” the weather service said in a bulletin. “Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.”

A tornado warning for the area is in effect until 2:45 p.m.
In the metro area, hail was reported in southeast Denver and parts of Arapahoe County. Rain was scattered throughout the metro area Friday afternoon. Some intersections, including Hampden Avenue and I-25, were flooded by the heavy downpours.
The high temperature in Denver on Friday reached 88 degrees, according to the weather service.
Breezy, cooler weather is expected Friday night.
Temperatures are expected to stay hot over the weekend in Denver with a high of 94 degrees on Saturday and 92 degrees on Sunday.
The weather service has issued a fire weather watch for much of the Western Slope on Saturday, including areas of Summit, Jackson, Grand, Pitkin, Gunnison, Mesa and Garfield counties.
“Very warm temperatures, gusty surface winds and very low relative humidities may result in extreme wildland fire behavior,” the weather service said in a bulletin. “Rapid fire growth and fire spread may occur during the afternoon and evening hours on Saturday.”
