GLENWOOD CANYON — A Toyota truck traveling east on Interstate 70 through Glenwood Canyon crashed and rolled several times before landing on its roof and skidding to a rest in the middle of the highway on Sunday night, according to a Denver Post reporter who witnessed the crash.
Colorado State Patrol confirmed the crash, saying they received a call of a single-vehicle rollover crash around 8 p.m. on I-70 near mile marker 129.
The truck — a Toyota Tacoma with a large white cap in its bed — was traveling in the right lane behind a larger yellow truck when it changed lanes. The cap began swaying, which appeared to cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which hit the left concrete barrier, flipped several times, hit the right guardrail and slid to a stop.
The woman driving the truck was conscious with face lacerations, according to the reporter. First responders later took her to an area hospital. The full extent of her injuries were not immediately clear.
A dog riding inside the truck with the woman — who was not identified — survived and took off running from the vehicle in the eastbound lanes into oncoming traffic.
As the woman was assisted by officials on scene, she repeatedly asked about the whereabouts of her dog.
A good Samaritan down the road found the dog in some nearby bushes and walked it back to the scene of the crash, giving it to officials on-scene, who said they would reunite the animal with its owner, the reporter said.
All eastbound lanes were temporarily closed, but were reopened as of 10 p.m. Sunday, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
There was no information about the cause of the crash or any injuries that may have been sustained, according to state patrol.
