Southbound Interstate 25 was closed for hours Monday afternoon for a crash involving a semitrailer in El Paso County, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
State patrol troopers responded to the two-vehicle crash roughly five miles south of the International Pikes Peak Raceway at 1:18 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from the agency.
A semitrailer hauling cars rolled over after it drove off the highway into the median, hit the guardrail and overcorrected as it reentered the highway lanes, state patrol officials said. A pickup truck was also involved in the crash, but state patrol officials said it was unknown when and how the semitrailer collided with the truck.
Paramedics took one person to the hospital “as a precautionary measure,” state patrol officials said. It’s unknown how many people were in both vehicles.
As of 5 p.m. Monday, the right lane of southbound I-25 remained closed between Exit 119 for Rancho Colorado Boulevard and Exit 116 for County Line Road, near Fountain, .
Fountain is roughly 14 miles south of Colorado Springs and 30 miles north of Pueblo.
“All southbound lanes are shut down for cleanup, and motorists are advised that northbound lanes are experiencing extremely slow conditions due to northbound motorists slowing at the crash scene,” state patrol officials stated in the release.
