The game, which lets users catch virtual characters with their smartphones, has become a smash hit since its release on July 6. Players can often be found walking in parks, along sidewalks and at landmarks — often with their attention focused on their phones.
Some say the activity is not real exercise, as it involves wandering around while staring at a screen, while others credit the game for getting people off their couches and outside.
