Members of the Denver Fire Department will spend Tuesday and Wednesday helping middle school students explore careers in firefighting by participating in hands-on emergency rescue and fire simulations.
“This is something we feel is important to give back to the community,” said Greg Pixley, camp organizer. “We are hoping to plant the seeds for some of these younger kids to give them a goal and perhaps something to work towards so when they get a little older maybe they want to become firefighters.”
The camps are the first of their kind. The camp this week for boys and girls will be followed with another July 26-28 for girls only.
The day camps are free and will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Rocky Mountain Fire Academy, 5440 Roslyn St., Building F in Denver. Registration is limited and parents/guardians must attend an orientation before their children participate. To register for the July 26-28 camp, contact Greg Pixley at 303-503-7490 or greg.pixley@denvergov.org for more information or to register.
