Re: July 14 business news story.

The University of Colorado analysis of Initiative 78 left out two crucial economic aspects of oil and gas drilling. One is the costly impact on climate change. A second is that the analysis seems to regard drilling as the only way to create energy-related jobs. The oil and gas industry is capital- and equipment-intensive, while solar and wind energy are labor-intensive. A thorough study by REMI (Regional Economic Models, Inc.) has shown that in place of oil and gas drilling, more jobs could be created by developing our clean energy sources. We are rich in sun and wind. Colorado has energy alternatives that are good for our economy and good for our environment. Let’s not leave those alternatives out of the analysis.
