It turns out Broncos defensive lineman Phil Taylor’s knee injury wasn’t minor.

The Broncos placed Taylor on injured reserve Sunday and signed defensive end Billy Winn to fill out their 90-man roster.

Taylor suffered a left knee injury during team drills during Friday’s practice. Coach Gary Kubiak said Saturday that Taylor’s MRI came back “fine,” but he probably would not have not been fully healthy enough to make his push for a roster spot. Taylor has had a history of knee injuries dating to his time with the Cleveland Browns.

The Broncos and Taylor will probably work out an injury settlement over the next few weeks.

Winn, 6-foot-4, 300 pounds, has played 52 games (21 starts) over the last four seasons with the Browns and Indianapolis Colts. He has three career sacks, two forced fumbles and two interceptions.
