Coloradans commemorated the state’s 140th anniversary with a celebration at the state capitol. The Colorado National Guard provided a 38-round salute in honor of Colorado’s admittance to the United States of America as the 38th state.
President Ulysses S. Grant signed Presidential Proclamation 230, which declared Colorado a state, on Aug. 1, 1876.
