Re: July 28 business news story.
The Denver Post reported that four top “unnamed executives” will be granted more than $2 million each as failed executives who led Sports Authority to its demise. [A bankruptcy judge has since the bonuses.] It seems to be a tradition over the past several years to reward a failed executive with millions of dollars on their way out the door. Consider, Carly Fiorina pocketed more than $40 million for nearly tanking Hewlett-Packard in failed “investments” that cost billions of dollars. And that is just one case in point.
An employee can be fired on the spot for expressing an opinion with management. But lead a company over the cliff and you win the business lottery. This trend must stop. Failed executives should never walk away with bonuses, especially when creditors are pounding on the door.
