King Soopers shoppers won’t have their clipped paper coupons doubled at the checkout line after Aug. 23, the Colorado division of supermarket giant Kroger announced Wednesday.
Instead, the chain is pushing its digital coupons, which are available on its free mobile app and . SooperCard-carrying customers can sign into their accounts to digitally load coupons onto their cards.
Stores will still accept the paper coupons at face value. The current rule doubles the value of manufacturers coupons up to $1.
King Soopers spokeswoman Kelli McGannon said the chain’s cost savings from not doubling coupons will be reinvested into its digital offerings and lowering everyday prices. King Soopers has 149 stores in Colorado.
“It allows us to meet our customers where they are,” she said.
Nearly all King Soopers customers — about 99 percent — have a loyalty card, and more than half are digitally engaged with the store’s website and mobile app, McGannon said.
