: Aug. 9 business news story.

The closing of Eccentricity comes as no surprise to me, nor should it to anyone else paying attention to the “downtowning” of Cherry Creek North over the past several years. The writing was on the wall when the Tattered Cover Book Store, Cook’s Mart and the Wizard’s Chest, among many others, departed this singular shopping locale. Business and residential behemoths now tower over First Avenue while corporate franchise retail stores are rapidly replacing the distinctive independent shops and boutiques which once proliferated in the area. We are all the poorer for it.

And this is just a microcosm of a trend we are experiencing globally.
