A letter-writer criticized The Denver Post for editorializing in its reporting of Donald Trump’s newsworthy comment that the “Second Amendment people” might be able to do something to prevent Hillary Clinton from appointing justices to the Supreme Court.

I would praise the press for reporting Clinton’s reaction that the remark was a threat and that the Trump organization later explained that this meant the Second Amendment people were unified and politically active.

Back in the 1960s, a young assistant professor of communication at Purdue University named Larry Samovar demonstrated the validity of the concept of calculated ambiguity in the rhetoric of politicians.  I would like to point out that both groups are telling the truth, but Trump is smart enough to know the double meaning of some of his statements.  He admits as much when he later says about a controversial line, “I was being sarcastic.”
