Re: Aug. 10 news story.

Boulder District Judge Patrick Butler gave a “wink-and-a-nod” sentence of probation and work release to rapist Austin James Wilkerson. The victim shares the all too familiar tragic story of assaults against college-age women. Judge Butler now joins California Judge Aaron Persky — who gave a lenient sentence to former Stanford swimmer Brock Turner — of caring more for the rapists than their victims. The result of Butler’s decision is giving carte blanche for assault and violence against women.

Our legislature can impeach district judges like Butler, who is not up for a public retention vote until 2020. Please contact your representatives and demand that judges work to end campus assaults and provide equal protection to victims of violence.
