Denver will have a couple more mostly sunny, hot and breezy days before a cold front brings rain and lower temperatures, forecasters say.

The high on Wednesday is expected to be about 89 degrees, said Bernie Meier, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Southeast breezes will gust up to 23 mph along the Front Range. There is a 20 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms Wednesday.

The likelihood of rain increases on Thursday to 30 percent in the afternoon, when the high temperature is expected to be around 87 degrees, according to the NWS.

A dramatic shift in weather will come on Thursday night when a cold front enters the state from the North.

There is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday. The high will reach 81 degrees. There is a slight chance of severe weather including a possibility for large hail, Meier said.

The low will drop Friday night to about 50 degrees, which is 10 degrees lower than normal for this time of year.

The high temperature on Saturday will be about 68 degrees. There is a 20 percent chance of rain on Saturday afternoon.

“We’re looking for pretty cool weather on Saturday,” Meier said. “It will bring relief from the heat and dry temperatures.”

Saturday night, the low temperature will dip to 49 degrees, according to the NWS.

It will dry out and warm up on Sunday, when the high will be around 75 degrees. There is a slight chance for afternoon rain on Sunday.

Temperatures will rise in the first part of next week to 84 on Monday and 86 on Tuesday.
