Re: Aug. 15 letter to the editor.
Letter-writer James Lewis believes baker Jack Phillips’ story is not about the law, but about destroying a Christian businessman. That is positively ludicrous. None of our laws exists to, as Lewis put it, “eradicate all vestiges of … faith.” Instead they preserve the premise of keeping faith in houses of worship, and out of secular endeavors. The truth is, the moment he opened his bakery, Phillips, by law, agreed to offer his services to all without discrimination. No business owner, Phillips included, is permitted to pick and choose his customers for any reason, even his faith.
