One of America’s longest-running club nights is changing things up again.
For more than 15 years, Denver-rooted residency has fostered a community around the classic end-of-the-week dance party concept — celebrating Friday nights with friends and cocktails, dance floor-friendly indie music and A-list guest DJs. While the weekly dance party has changed venues multiple times over the years, its organizers have always curated thoughtful and consistent club nights — only ever missing two Fridays in more than 15 years of party-rocking.
While most DJ nights come and go, Lipgloss somehow became a Denver institution, an important part of the city’s independent fabric as well as a nationally recognized force.
Lipgloss will soon transition from a weekly residency to a monthly party (with semi-regular special events) — a move Lipgloss founding DJ Michael Trundle attributes to a changing social era, a rapidly expanding city and an ever-shifting club culture.
Reverb caught up with Trundle to talk about all the upcoming changes in his DJ life and his personal life — as well as Lipgloss’ final Friday as we know it (Sept. 2), its first monthly party in its new incarnation and location (Sept. 16) and its first A-list special event in a post-weekly era (Oct. 28).
