Get ready for some brain freeze with this cool deal from 7-Eleven. On Aug. 19 and 20, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day, bring your own cup to the convenience store and fill ‘er up with your favorite Slurpee flavor for just $1.50. Before you start thinking about using a bucket, there are a few rules for your cup: Must fit through a 10-inch hole upright, be food-safe and watertight. Limit one cup per person.
World views
“Travel” the world at Aurora Global Fest, an international culture festival, on the Great Lawn at the Aurora Municipal Center (15151 E. Alameda Pkwy.) on Aug. 20. Admission is free. Festivities run from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. with continuous live entertainment, as well as a variety of ethnic food vendors. Also, witness artisans at their handiwork, enjoy globally-inspired brews at the World Beer Market or take in the International Fashion Show. In just an hour or two, you can expand your world view.
Animated fun
Cinemark celebrates its inaugural Community Day on Aug. 20, with a morning of free movies and discounted concessions. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., view a DreamWorks Animation movie, including “Shrek”, “Kung Fu Panda 3”, “Home”, “How To Train Your Dragon 2” and “Madagascar 3: Europe Most Wanted” for free. In addition, select concession items will be discounted to $2 each, including small popcorns, soft drinks and all packaged candy. All Cinemark locations will open their doors at 8:30 a.m., with the first movie beginning at 9 a.m. Seating for each film is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Show times and movies vary by location.
Park place
There’s nothing quite like a “birthday gift” of Mother Nature and all her beauty. In celebration of the National Parks Service’s 100th birthday, all 412 of its parks, monuments and historical sites are open to the public for free from Aug. 25 to 28. The freebie includes entrance, commercial tour and transportation entrance fees. However, reservation, camping, tour, concession fees are not included, as well as those collected by third parties. The nearest park to the metro area is the splendid Rocky Mountain National Park — between Estes Park and Grand Lake.
Frosty mug
End summer on a sweet note at Wendy’s. Right now, the fast-food restaurant is serving up a small Frosty for just 50 cents (regularly 99 cents). Made with real cream and fresh milk, the Frosty is a favorite for many. There is no limit, so everyone can grab a spoon and dig into a vanilla or chocolate treat. Adventurous types are known to dip their fries in the creamy concoction for a sweet and salty experience.
