I keep reading about Russia and China hacking American business and government computers. What I wonder is: Are we hacking Russian and Chinese computers? The answer is pretty obvious. We do the same thing without benefit of any press whatsoever. For all of our talk about free society and free press, we are living a pious fraud.
I am not telling anybody anything they probably haven’t known or guessed at, but let’s go one step farther. If we want to create a free society, then we have to admit what we do and demand that of other societies. I don’t believe we can be free and secret at the same time.
It is apparently a common practice to fire people when they ask what other people at their place of business are being paid. Nobody really knows why gas prices go up and down. Shouldn’t the concepts of freedom and transparency be mutual and interdependent?
