Re: Aug. 22 news story.
Your article notes that “each major party claims fewer Colorado voters than the number of residents who don’t register with any party.”
Based on that, the co-chair of the Green Party of Colorado proclaims that “we see that as a mandate for the Green Party,” while a spokeswoman for the Libertarians of Colorado goes into the stratosphere with her statement that the “two major parties have nominated the two most disliked candidates since ancient Rome.” Ancient Rome?
The article rightly observes that “history suggests, however, that a major migration to U.S third parties would require a significant change to voter behavior and the electoral system,” not to mention that these two candidates for the Green and Libertarian parties, Jill Stein and Gary Johnson, ran as their party’s nominee four years ago, with Stein getting 7,508 votes and Johnson 35,545. Today, according to a poll, “Stein is at 6 percent and Johnson is at 15 percent.”
With numbers like that for these two re-run candidates, all Stein and Johnson have to do is to keep running for the next 50 years or so, and they might be able to put a real dent in a November election.
