Two men who allegedly kidnapped and raped a woman 32 years ago have been bound for trial on kidnapping charges, authorities say.
A Weld County district judge found enough evidence to proceed against Rusty Gene Barnhart, 57, and Inocencio Trevino, 49, on Wednesday morning.
The two each face up to 24 years in prison on the charge.
Two men kidnapped the woman while she was walking home after working at a Denny’s restaurant at 2319 8th Ave. on July 31, 1984. The men threatened to kill her and raped her in an alley, according to a news release by Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke.
The case went cold until 2014 when state legislators passed a law requiring all unsolved rape kits to be tested. .
Rourke could not file rape charges against the suspects because of the statute of limitations in sexual assault cases.
Both defendants are scheduled for an arraignment on Sept. 23.
