The five-mile summit stretch of Mount Evans Highway will close on Tuesday for the season.
The Colorado Department of Transportation says it typically shuts down the area — starting from Summit Lake — the day after Labor Day under an agreement with the U.S. Forest Service to help protect resources near the top of the 14,130-foot mountain.
The road from Echo Lake to Summit Lake will remain open into early October, as weather conditions permit, CDOT says.
The full highway is scheduled to reopen for the summer season the Friday before Memorial Day, weather permitting.
