Re: Aug. 27 Perspective article.
How trite. Sarah Jeong’s synopsis of the legal challenges to internet porn was such a waste of space. After reading and re-reading her article I am still not sure what point she was trying to make? Oh right, if you are on the side of regulating internet porn, you must be some uptight religious fanatic with sexuality issues. Ms. Jeong is wrong, and I take issue with the condescending tone of her article.
Today’s online porn is not the “pictures of naked ladies” that was the introduction to human sexuality for many of us in past generations. No rational person would argue that viewing “pictures of naked ladies” is particularly harmful to curious adolescents, even the most raunchy of those old Playboy and Hustler photos. But today’s kids can see it all, 24/7. Sure, if it was just “pictures of naked ladies,” then who would really care. But today’s online porn videos, which include group sex and violence, can do real damage to our kids. Habitual viewing of online porn causes damage to the most important sex organ, the brain.
I encourage everyone to read a comprehensive article on this subject: “Porn and the Threat to Virility” by Belinda Luscombe published in the April 11 issue of Time magazine. Itap an eye-opener and an important read for everyone who cares about the health and well-being of our kids.

My introduction to pictures of naked women could not have been better. My father didn’t have back issues of Playboy, and there was no such thing as sexting. The first nude women I saw were in art museums. “Oh, thatap what they look like,” I said. “Wow.” It was very pleasurable, and still is. Like anything that is pleasurable, it can become excessive and obsessive. Always has been, always will be. Attempts to limit or ban naked women on the internet are lost causes. See: Prohibition. We are a society and a humanity, at least here in America, of openness, but with that comes consequences. See: the Second Amendment.
