Re: Sept. 6 news story.
I was delighted to see the front-page article on the High Line Canal. I live next to the canal and have walked along the trail for 18 years, watching it change from a wonderful wildlife habitat where beaver swam and ducks raised their babies, to a mostly dry ditch which people use as a secondary trail. I hope the proposal to run stormwater in the canal is put in place. It made me sad when water became so limited, especially in the spring. Mallards used to return to the canal each spring to hatch their babies, but before the ducklings became big enough to fly away, the water dried up and the babies were left vulnerable to predators.
