
Pirate’s bounty
Grab yer swashbucklers and head to Krispy Kreme on Sept. 19 for some sweet treasure. Any buccaneer who dares to enter a store talking like a pirate is rewarded with a free Original Glazed donut. For the truly adventurous, wear full pirate attire for a free dozen Original Glazed donuts. For full attire to qualify, pick three of the following: pirate hat, bandana, eye patch, costume hook, pirate shirt, peg-leg, parrot or knickers. To keep it safe, no weapons (fake or real) are allowed. If you’re hungrier, head to Long John Silver’s on the same day. Dress like a pirate and get a free two-piece fish or chicken basket. Chill out
Grab a friend, two straws and head over to 7-Eleven for a really cool deal. Through Sept. 18, the convenience store is offering a buy-one-get-one free Slurpee, good on any size. Choose from an array of flavors, sweet to sour, as well as sugar-free versions. Limit one per customer, while supplies last. With so many locations, finding one on your travels should be easy. The ensuing brain freeze is also free.
Clean up
Clean up this weekend with a sudsy sale. From Sept. 16 to 18, Whole Foods Market is holding a rare sale on GoodSoap by Alaffia — just $1 a bar (regularly $2.49). Choose from coconut- or shea-based soaps in a variety of scents, including lavender, rose, wild strawberry, vanilla honey, green tea, oatmeal and more. If you’re feeling generous, buy an extra bar or two, as all 10 Denver locations will be accepting soap donations for the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. The sale soap is available while supplies last, so get there early to shower yourself with savings.
Curtain call
The Betsy Stage is known around town for producing innovative Shakespearean adaptations and staging them for free. Those artists also have a “little sister” company The BiTSY Stage (1137 S. Huron St., Denver), which adapts international folktales into rich, family-friendly productions. Next up is “The Fortune Teller’s Fortune: A Tale From Nicaragua” from Sept. 17 to Oct. 16. Performances are every Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. The Central American tale explores how taking control of our lives can lead to happiness. All performances are free and appropriate for all ages. However, donations gladly accepted, no matter how small. Reservations are required. Say cheese!
The Melt is celebrating National Cheeseburger Day in a cheesy way. On Sept. 18, the first 100 people in line for dinner starting at 5 p.m. will receive a free Original Cheddar Burger. There are locations in Denver, Fort Collins, Littleton, Lone Tree and Longmont. Plus, snap a photo of your Meltap cheeseburger and share it on social media with the hashtags #themelt and #burgerlicious between Sept. 18 and 30 for a chance to win free cheeseburgers for a year.
