A woman has been cited with careless driving after police say she struck an 8-year-old girl outside a Colorado Springs elementary school on Monday afternoon.

The collision happened about 3:50 p.m. on the 600 block of Brookshire Avenue just outside of Stratton Meadows Elementary School in the southwest part of the city.

The girl, who was not seriously hurt, was crossing the street in the crosswalk when a truck stopped for her. A driver behind the truck, identified as 37-year-old April Price, passed the truck in a middle lane and hit the child, police say.

Price was ticketed on suspicion of careless driving resulting in bodily injury and driving while license restrained.

The girl was taken to a hospital for treatment.
