
Former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb has been admitted to Denver Health medical center for surgery to treat diverticulitis, the hospital said Tuesday.
The painful condition that form along the lining of the digestive system, typically in the colon.
A statement issued by Denver Health on Tuesday afternoon said Webb had been admitted to the hospital during the day. He “will undergo a medical procedure following an episode with diverticulitis last week. The procedure will require him to be hospitalized for a few days, but it is expected he will be able to return home later this week.”
The statement says Webb’s wife, Wilma, requests privacy during his hospitalization and that the hospital will issue no further updates.
Webb, 75, served as the city’s mayor for three terms, from 1991 to 2003.
