A long-time youth sports referee in the Denver area was sentenced Tuesday to three years of probation聽, prosecutors say.

Peter Joseph Labella Jr. of Erie pleaded guilty to the charge in July. An accusation of internet luring was dismissed as part of an agreement with the Adams County district attorney’s office, which prosecuted the case.

Labella, 57, was arrested in March after authorities say he tried聽to lure a child using the internet.

He thought he was聽in contact through social media with a person he believed was a 13-year-old girl, investigators said, but聽was really a Brighton police officer. He eventually聽arranged a meeting with an undercover detective posing as the child, according to officials.
