It’s puzzling to see that 69.4 percent of respondents to a Denver Post opinion poll believe that Donald Trump would be stronger on national security. One can only wonder, based on what?

Take his wall. There has been no instance of a terrorist attack by anyone entering the U.S. illegally over our southern border. Illegal border crossings are, in fact, already down.

How about Syrian refugees? They are already vetted via a strict process taking about two years. Not one act of terrorism in the U.S. has been committed by a Syrian refugee.

How do solutions to nonexistent problems improve security? Shouldn’t we be focusing on real weaknesses? And where is any evidence that Trump has the knowledge or experience to wipe out the Islamic State?

A braggart’s swagger shouldn’t be mistaken for strength. It usually indicates the opposite.
