: Sept. 21 Greg Dobbs column.
Greg Dobbs writes clearly about the absurdity and obscenity of the U.S. election process. Among the miseries he lists are the cost, with all its implications about power and influence, and also the length of time consumed by the politics.
There is yet another toxic side effect, though: the fact that we citizens, both adults and children, now see our future leaders as deeply flawed. When our electoral miseries finally end, we will still remember that both the winner and the loser were the objects of insults and also the persons who hurled those abuses. The winner will be a bruised leader, and the public will remain disgusted.
In another era, our sons and daughters grew up imagining that one day they could become president. In today’s political climate, what child might want to grow up with that vision?
