Puffing and chuffing, they arrive at the Colorado Railroad Museum excited for a glimpse of their smiling, blue-hued hero. We’re talking, of course, about the hordes of kids at Day Out with Thomas.

This is the final weekend for the annual touring tradition, a giant marketing push for both the PBS-backed “Thomas and Friends” show and its merchandise train, as well as traditional rail attractions in general. As it turns out, itap also a lot of fun.

The festivities, including rides pulled by a life-sized Thomas, storytelling, toys, model tracks, music and other Thomas-themed activities, take place at various times Sept. 24-25. 17155 W. 44th Ave. in Golden. $20-$25. 866-468-7630 or
